Beginner Guitar for Teens
VIRTUAL and IN-PERSON
Here your teen will be given the tools to play their favorite songs as well as how to play with other musicians. From melodies to chords and riffs, this class will provide a groundwork for learning the guitar in a fun environment.

Guitar for Adults: Beyond the Basics
VIRTUAL ONLY
For adults who have a basic knowledge of the guitar and are looking to learn more skills. You will explore different styles of music from rock, to fingerstyle country, to jazz and more. You will learn how to connect scales to chords in various songs and even improvise and come up with your own musical ideas. You will learn all you need to know to be able to learn how to play your favorite songs! The class uses standard notation, along with TABS, online resources and free backing tracks.
DATES: Thursdays March 11 – May 13 (10 classes)

REQUIREMENTS: For adults with basic guitar knowledge

Jazz Guitar
VIRTUAL ONLY
Looking for something more advanced? Expand your guitar improvisation skills and understanding of how jazz influences many styles of music. You will apply scales and chords to jazz standards, learn music theory and harmony, plus how to create your own music, in any style! For guitarists with at least 1-3 years of playing experience.
DATES: Mondays March 8 – May 10 (10 classes)
TIME: 5:00pm – 6:00pm

Meet the Instructors
Ron Beagen
Beginner Guitar for Adults
Ron has been teaching guitar for 40+ years. He studied with jazz greats Thad Jones, Mel Lewis and Bucky Pizzarelli. Ron has performed in oldies band, big bands, wedding bands, and even heavy metal bands. He is also a virtuoso on the Chapman Stick/Warr Guitar, a unique instrument that allows the player to use both hands on the fret board.
Reflecting on his ongoing career, Ron says, “Many of my students have gone on to professional careers as music educators and working musicians. And after so many years, I still love this job!”
Joshua Friedman
Beginner Guitar for Teens
Joshua is a current Classical Guitar Performance major and Music Technology minor at Mason Gross School of the Arts (graduating Spring 2021). He studies with Guitarist Jorge Caballero. He attended masterclasses with faculty from the University of Southern California, Mannes School of Music, and the University of Texas, including William Kanengiser, Michael Newman, and Evan Taucher.
Joshua has been teaching guitar for the past five years to students of all ages from beginners to advanced. When he is not performing or teaching, he is developing his skills in recording technology at Sound on Sound Studios.

Michele has been teaching for over 20 years including as a public school educator; in private instruction; and as leader of the guitar program at Arts School in Newark. He teaches many styles such as classical, jazz, rock, blues, country, and Brazilian music.
