New Jersey Jazz Academy Camp

This two-week jazz band intensive is for the advanced player. Recommendation from the student’s school jazz band director or private teacher is required. This camp offers daily rehearsals with jazz instruction in a big band setting, weekly sectionals with well-known jazz musicians, and an exciting Friday night performance for family and friends at the end of the intensive. The New Jersey Jazz Academy is scheduled for the early morning so that students can easily add this wonderful learning/performing experience to their summer activities. This experience is a must for students who are in their school jazz band and wish to improve their skills, or students who will be auditioning for jazz band in the fall.

This New Jersey Jazz Academy camp is open to students who play: alto/tenor/bari sax, trumpet, trombone, piano, guitar, bass, drums/percussion, vocalists, flute, and vibes/xylophone.

The NJ Jazz Academy director is Vincent Turturiello, a Grammy-nominated music educator. His Scotch Plains-Fanwood jazz band, “The Moonglowers”, received top honors in the NJ Association for Jazz Education’s Division II competition in 2014, 2015, and 2016. “Mr. T” is currently an adjunct professor at Kean University and Mason Gross School of the Arts at Rutgers University.
